Susan McWhinney is a photographer and new media artist / researcher. Her work addresses relationships between image and data in cognitive, networked environments within a documentary / narrative practice. She completed a BFA and an MFA at California Institute of the Arts where she worked in video and lens-based installation. She later moved to NYC where she worked as an advertising and editorial photographer. In 2012 Susan joined the faculty of Rochester Institute of Technology where she is currently an Assistant Professor in the Advertising Photography program. In 2014 she entered the PhD program in Media Studies at SUNY Buffalo. Her research and photography have been exhibited and published both nationally and internationally.
She lives in the Hudson River Valley with her partner and Staffordshire Terrier, Asha.
